BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF YUNNAN

Yunnan is located in the southwest of China, neighboring Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuang and Tibet. Because of its bordering upon Burma,Loas and Vietnam, the province is the gateway to Southeast Asia.

Yunnan covers an area of 394,000 million square km, most part of which is mountainous regions. The population of the province is about 41 million-Han nationality accounting for 65%,ethnic nationalities 35%.

Yunnan has experienced a fast economic and social development since 1979.Despite 7.1% GDP growth rate in 1999,the province still remains strong and vigorous in economic growth in China. Tobacco, metallurgy, chemicals, machinery, electronics, food, mining, rubber, forestry, pharmaceuticals are the most important conventional industries ,while tourism, biological engineering , hydroelectric power, flower cultivation are the dynamic sectors in the economic growth. With its abundant natural resources, strong industrial foundation and good investment climate, Yunnan has drawn a lot of international investment in various sectors from Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, Britain, South Korea and so on.
